A hearty hibernation

Wow... what a surreal adventure. As I sit on my couch, back home in Winnipeg, there is a crooked smile smeared across my face as I look back at the events of last Sunday. Like a montage in a Guy Ritchie movie, fleeting images of water, cycling and pavement pounding rattle around in my head. And, with the addition of the "M-Dot," I can see that Ironman is truly forever. I am also giggling at my last post with the Iron..... I am IRONMAN. Look for the hidden Iron in possible future posts... a little inside secret between toi et moi.

Now I know you have been asking yourself..... what does Tri-Guy do now? How do you come down from something like this? Well, I officially started this journey on the 6th of September. Since then I have been driven and focused on one singular task and now that it is done, I need some down time. As of this morning, I have been "off" for four days and I am following the plan and I am taking ten days "off." Then I will get back to light-moderate exercise.

What of the blog? Hmmmmm. This is a tough decision. However, I think that I will leave it up to my 11 followers and any of you who care to weigh in. What say you? I truly believe we have all been united here in the blogosphere through a common love of triathlon. Thus, if it continues, I am thinking it will continue with that theme. What I am proposing is a hiatus until November when I begin the training season again. At that point, i will resume posting my so-called-life as I get back on the trainer. If during that time, some triathlon related news comes my way, I will post it, but otherwise, time for a well needed hibernation and rejuvination. Feel free to email me your personal thoughts (edwardss@mts.net) and share with me privately anything you have to offer.

In the meantime, I leave you with this tidbit. When it is all said and done, I decided that a little pat on the back was in order. No... it is not a new Cervélo.

Here..... gnaw on this.

"So ya... think ya, might like to go to the show.
To feel the warm thrill of confusion,
that space cadet glow."

So into my cave I crawl, with my belly full and my mind foggy with sleep, satisfied with this year's results as a hearty hibernation hovers in my head eagerly awaiting your thoughts.

  1. Roger Water's eh... Geez... how long are you going to milk this rewarding yourself because you finished ironman??? As long as you can I hope.

I'm going to make my opinions public, if you don't mind. If you do mind you can always opt to not publish this post and then it will be the same as if I messaged you privately.

I think you should keep writing it as long as it is calling to you. I don't know because I haven't been there (not exactly anyway... I've been there with other things though) but you usually can't come off a single minded focus like that cold turkey. Everyone talks about the "Post ironman depression" -- as much as I can't imagine you depressed (Mr. Polly-Anna himself) your ironman journey may not be entirely done yet.

But having said that, Waiting till training starts again in November might be a reasonable plan. I personally enjoy your writing and the way you present your experiences and I think you should keep it up as long as you are still motivated to.

  2. You have to keep writing - I have you bookmarked and I don't know how to delete bookmarks...(just kidding! - about the bookmarks that is!) I've enjoyed your writing style and upbeat philosophy.

I will miss you while you are gone, and hopefully look forward to lunch-hour escapism come November!!

  3. Hey, nice story, very good writing. Up the irons! I'll be doing my first Iron in Lake Placid 2011, I'll probably have the same tattoo too and I made the commitment that the first song I'll hear after the race will be Black Sabbath's Iron Man.
