Beach Blanket Bingo

So wha'cha do for a day off? The possibilities were endless, but ultimately it boiled down to being extremely happy that my family was here and we could all head down to the beach.

However, before we could delve into the melée of the main beach, Lori and I headed out for an easy 25 minute run together. I cannot tell you the last time we were able to run together. Simple pleasures truly are the best.

We got home and got the kiddies all organised and loaded the car.

After an initial glance it was no too obvious where you might put a blanket... (in order to make sure we did not miss a valuable "spot," please click on the image and enlarge it and see if you can find Waldo).

Thus, we decitded that the best course of action was to use my knowledge as a local guide and find a slice of heaven all to ourselves. With a little inside info, it is amazing that you can almost always get away from the hustle and bustle of the all mightly tourist trying to maximize their weeks vacation and find a little bit of the Sahara all to yourselves. Not to mention that on the main beaches, and this may only happen to me, but it ALWAYS happens to me that I end up sitting beside the 3 guys that just blew in from wherever for their summer vacation and they need to down this 24 in some kind of contest and they invariably end up hitting me with the object of choice that they are throwing (beach ball, foot ball, soccer-ball, frisbee, small dog) and I get all secretly mad, as I would never want to say something and ruin their drunken boisterous silliness. Regardless, there I am hating being in paradise (or wherever I am)..... so.... I avoid it all to begin with, because if there is something you did not know about me that I will reveal to you now it is that I HATE crowds. Not my cup of tea, as they say... whoever "they" are.

Now, obviously, that does not apply to mass swim starts... there, I kind of have a quiet inner confidence that I know will see me through the mass of lemmings as we leap off into the water together with 2300 of our closest friends trying to churn the Okanagan into a frothy maelstrom.

Back to the original thesis...... so we found a place without all that... and once we had settled on a spot with some shade for me, as the last thing I need right now is a wicked burn or sun/heat stroke, and a little bit of eye candy for Lori, we were able to get down to business.

I read over the Athlete Information Package for the race and thought about getting everything ready.... seriously... enlarge the image and check out what I'm reading.

....and Lori watched all the 20-30 somethings with rock hard abs parade past her as she sipped her Coke Zero innocently enough as not to attract too much attention to her drooling.

and so it goes.... each time I visit a beach, I think Frankie and Anette had it right and not much has changed since '65..... Beach Blanket Bingo
